Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers!)

Category:

Children

  • Do you have a nursery?
Yes. The Ascension has a wonderful nursery program. The nursery opens 10 minutes before the 8:00 a.m. service and remains open through the 10:15 a.m. worship service. We also have nursery care available during our Wednesday evening worship and activities. The nursery on Wednesdays opens at 5:15 p.m. The Ascension believes that nursery care for parents and guardians who want to take part in the life of our church is essential. You will find nursery care available at most services and special activities.
  • If I take my children to the nursery, may I go and get them for Holy Communion.
Yes. Most parents who place small children in the nursery go and get their children from the nursery for Holy Communion during the Offertory.
  • May small children join their parents for worship on Sundays?
Yes. Children are welcome to accompany their parents to worship. We do have nursery care available during services for infants and toddlers and "Children's Church" for those older children. All children typically join their families for Holy Communion. However, parents are welcome to keep their children with them during the entire service.

Directions

  • How do I get to The Ascension?
The Episcopal Church of the Ascension is located at 315 Clanton Avenue in Montgomery, Alabama. You will find detailed directions and a map on the 'Directions" page in the "About Us" section of this website. You will also find a link in the menu at the bottom of each website page.

Newcomers

  • I heard the Episcopal worship service is hard to follow. Is that true and will I feel out of place?
The Episcopal Church embraces the "beauty of Holiness" in our worship. We believe that God reveals Godself to us through Holy Scripture and through the sights and sounds of worship and life. Our worship service is designed to embrace this beauty through our active participation. It is a beautiful form of worship based on the ancient practices of our Christian faith. We are not mere spectators. We are challenged to take part in actively praising God both in our worship together, and in the charge to go out into the world to love and serve our Lord and Savior. As with anything new, the worship can seem foreign at first. However, the Ascension family will guide you. We believe that you will find our worship service a beautiful, inspiring and powerful way to praise God! If you would like to know a little more about what to expect visit the "What to Expect" page in the 'I'm New" section of this website.
  • What should I wear?
You will find all manners of dress during Sunday worship. There are many who wear more formal clothes (e.g. coat and tie for men and dresses for women). However, there are many who favor the business casual style (e.g. khaki pants and a shirt button down or knit shirt, etc., for men and similar for women). You do not typically find denim jeans, t-shirts or shorts unless it is a special service. Whatever you wear, we think you will find the congregation welcoming. We don't really care what you wear (provided you wear clothes) as long as you come and worship God.

Parking

  • Where do I park?
We have a parking lot behind the church facing South Hull Street. We also have a parking lot on the front side of the church facing South McDonough Street. There is also parking available on the streets surrounding the church-South Hull Street, Clanton Avenue and South McDonough Streets.
