Parish Life
There are many opportunities for fellowship at the Ascension. We enjoy Sunday morning breakfast, Wednesday women's bible study with lunch, Wednesday evening supper and children's activities, Thursday morning men's prayer breakfast and Cursillo reunion groups. On Sunday evenings the EYC (7th -12th grades) meets in the Joshua House, a wonderful facility where our youth gather for fellowship, worship, discussion, and outreach. We have recently employed interim youth leaders to work with our EYC program until a permanent Youth Minister can be secured.
Small adult groups meet monthly for supper and fellowship, as do the Ascensionaires (a group of older parishioners). A parish-wide covered dish Episcoparty is also held each month, and the popularity of this gathering speaks for the fun that we have.
The ECW recently coordinated an annual fall Chicken Curry Luncheon as a fundraiser to support outreach ministries. The women's group also conducts the United Thank Offering Ingathering as part of its contribution to outreach.
Another women's organization, the Ascension's chapter of the Daughters of the King, meets frequently during the year, and is dedicated to prayer and service in Christ's name.
The Blessing of the Animals in the fall (along with a youth-led dog wash) is a favorite activity, as is the Ascension Day annual parish picnic in the spring. Lemonade Sundays during August offer refreshment after the main worship service and an opportunity to catch up with fellow parishioners after being scattered by summer vacations. The Christmas pageant, starring our children and youth, is also highly anticipated.
The Cursillo renewal movement has made, and continues to make, a significant contribution to the spiritual life of the church, with many parishioners attending as pilgrims and serving on staff.
